Nature’s Newest Neighbors: Baby Ducks Arrive at Cedar Lodge!

There is an old saying that nature knows exactly where to go when it needs peace and quiet. This week, we received the ultimate stamp of approval from Mother Nature herself right here at Cedar Lodge in Wisconsin Dells.
For the past few weeks, our staff and guests have been keeping a quiet, respectful eye on a very special guest. A mother mallard duck chose the secluded garden bed at the base of a tree right outside our whirlpool suites to build her nest. Tucked safely away in the lush green foliage, she patiently watched the world go by.
We are thrilled to share that her patience has officially paid off—her beautiful baby ducklings have finally hatched!
The Perfect Stamp of Serenity
If you’ve ever wondered just how peaceful our grounds are, this is your answer. Animals don’t nest where there is loud chaos. They seek out calm, secure environments. The fact that this mother duck felt safe enough to hatch her babies just steps away from our lodge units speaks volumes about the tranquil, relaxing atmosphere we pride ourselves on maintaining.
While Wisconsin Dells is famous worldwide for its high-energy waterparks and bustling attractions, Cedar Lodge offers a completely different side of the Dells. Here, the loudest noise you’ll hear in the morning is the wind rustling through the pines, the gentle lapping of the water, and now, the soft chirping of newborn ducklings heading down to the shore for their very first swim.
Why the Lower Dells WI River is the Ultimate Escape
Our location plays a huge part in creating this peaceful sanctuary. Situated directly on the historic Lower Dells WI River, Cedar Lodge sits on a majestic stretch of water known for its stunning, uncrowded scenery.
Unlike the busier upper sections of the river, the Lower Dells offers a much quieter, more intimate connection with nature. When you stay with us, you get front-row seats to:
-
Iconic Sandstone Formations: Towering rock cliffs carved out over thousands of years rise directly from the water’s edge, visible right from our property.
-
A True Riverfront Haven: Whether you are staying in our rustic cabins, spacious lodge rooms, or relaxing in one of our private whirlpool suites, the river is always just a few steps away.
-
Abundant Wildlife: From bald eagles soaring overhead to our newest little webbed-foot residents exploring the sandy shoreline, it’s a paradise for nature lovers and anyone looking to unplug.
Experience the Peaceful Side of the Dells
Whether you’re planning a romantic weekend getaway in a whirlpool suite or a family vacation centered around campfires and river views, Cedar Lodge provides the perfect balance. You’re only minutes away from all the downtown action, but the moment you drive down Hillside Drive on the Lower Dells, you step into a quiet world of your own.
Devils Lake State Park and Mirror Lake State Park are only minutes from Cedar Lodge. Experience the beauty and natural wonder of the Dells area.
We want to wish our new little duckling family a safe journey on the Wisconsin River! Come down and see the peaceful side of the Dells for yourself—your Riverside chair is waiting.

Waterfront Vs. Waterpark Resort: Choosing Your Perfect Wisconsin Dells Vacation
When you hear “Wisconsin Dells,” what’s the first thing that comes to mind? For many, it’s towering indoor waterparks, massive wave pools, and echoing, crowded hotel lobbies. But there is another side to the Waterpark Capital of the World—one defined by peaceful morning fog over the river, private sandy beaches, and quiet evenings around a crackling campfire.
If you are planning a getaway, you face a major choice: Waterfront vs. Waterpark resort in Wisconsin Dells. Click Here to Check Rooms & Rates
Both options offer incredible vacation memories, but they cater to entirely different styles of travel. Let’s break down the differences so you can find the perfect fit for your next trip.
The Waterpark Resort Experience: High-Energy Thrills
Wisconsin Dells earned its reputation because of its mega-resorts. If your ultimate vacation goal is nonstop adrenaline, multi-story slides, and surf simulators, a traditional waterpark resort delivers exactly that.
-
The Vibe: Fast-paced, high-energy, and loud.
-
The Crowds: You will share the pools, lines, and dining areas with hundreds (sometimes thousands) of other families.
-
Best For: Families with older kids who want to spend 8 hours a day chasing thrill rides.
While the massive parks are undeniably fun, they can sometimes leave you feeling like you need a vacation from your vacation. Between navigating packed parking lots and waiting in long lines for slides, it’s easy to miss out on actual relaxation.
The Waterfront Resort Experience: Natural Beauty & True Relaxation
Just minutes away from the bustling main strip lies a completely different world. Choosing a scenic Wisconsin River lodging option like Cedar Lodge & Settlement gives you a front-row seat to the natural beauty that drew travelers to this region in the first place.
Instead of concrete pool decks and artificial waves, a waterfront resort emphasizes wide-open spaces, fresh air, and authentic connection.
-
The Vibe: Peaceful, rustic, and deeply rejuvenating.
-
The Space: Spacious log cabins in Wisconsin Dells, modern suites, and villas with river views give you room to breathe.
-
Best For: Couples seeking a romantic escape, families who love outdoor recreation, and anyone looking to unplug and unwind.
At Cedar Lodge, your backyard is the historic Wisconsin River. You can spend your afternoon building sandcastles on a private 400-foot sandy beach, kayaking along the quiet shoreline, or catching a legendary Wisconsin sunset from our riverside lawn.

Wisconsin dells fall colors
When autumn arrives in Wisconsin Dells, the region transforms. The towering Cambrian sandstone bluffs are suddenly framed by a brilliant canopy of fiery reds, deep oranges, and golden yellows.
While most travelers rush to the indoor waterparks, the smart ones look for a place to truly slow down and soak it all in. If you are looking for the ultimate autumn getaway, Cedar Lodge & Settlement offers something mega-resorts simply cannot: a peaceful, front-row seat to nature’s best show.
Whether you are traveling as a couple, with family, or just looking to escape the daily grind, here is why Cedar Lodge is the perfect basecamp for your Dells fall color trip.
For Couples: Romance, Whirlpools, and Quiet Golden Hours
If your idea of a perfect fall weekend involves crisp air, a glass of local wine, and uninterrupted views, Cedar Lodge is a dream for couples.
Unlike the loud, crowded hallways of the waterpark hotels, our rustic Whirlpool Log Cabins and Fireplace Suites are built for relaxation.
The Autumn Vibe: Imagine waking up to a quiet river fog lifting off the water, enjoying fresh coffee on your private balcony, and watching the sunset light up the changing leaves across the river.
The Perfect Date Night: Spend your afternoon exploring local vineyards like Balanced Rock Winery, or enjoy a peaceful evening at the famous Ishnala Supper Club—nestled right in the middle of Mirror Lake State Park’s brilliant fall canopy. After a prime rib dinner, head back to Cedar Lodge to warm up by your in-room stone fireplace or melt into a private whirlpool tub.
For Families: Space to Breathe and Old-School Autumn Traditions
Fall is the perfect time to pull the kids away from screens and introduce them to the great outdoors. Cedar Lodge offers families a nostalgic, “Northwoods cabin” experience without having to drive hours up north.
Room for Everyone: Forget cramping four people into a standard double-queen hotel room. Our spacious log cabins and multi-room villas offer full kitchens, separate living areas, and plenty of space for the whole crew to spread out.
Built-in Fall Activities: You don’t even have to leave the property to enjoy the season. Step outside and let the kids crunch through the leaves on our riverside lawn. As the sun sets, gather around one of our property fire pits to roast marshmallows, tell ghost stories, and watch the stars over the dark river.
Close to Classic Fun: We are just a short drive from local autumn favorites like Country Bumpkin Farm Market (think pumpkin picking and apple cider donuts) and the Riverside & Great Northern Railway, where kids can ride a historic mini-steam train right through a tunnel of fall colors.
For Nature Lovers: A Front-Row Seat to the Best Foliage in the State
You don’t need a crowded boat tour to see the trees reflect off the legendary Wisconsin River. At Cedar Lodge, it happens right outside your window.
The 400-Foot Private Beach: When the summer crowds leave, our massive private sandy beach turns into a quiet sanctuary. It is one of the most unique vantage points in the area to look up at the colored tree canopy draping over the water.
Hiking in Our Backyard: We are located directly down the road from the hidden gem Chapel Gorge Trail, a quiet path through deep woods that leads right to a secluded river beach. We are also just minutes from Mirror Lake State Park, where the glassy water acts like a mirror for the sugar maples framing the cliffs.
Ditch the Chaos. Choose the Cabin.
The best part about fall in the Dells? The frantic pace of summer slows down. The lines are shorter, the traffic is gone, and the air is crisp.
This autumn, give yourself permission to skip the noisy concrete hotel rooms. Book a riverfront cabin, pack your favorite sweater, and come find out why fall at Cedar Lodge isn’t just a season—it’s an experience you’ll want to make a yearly tradition.

Wisconsin Dells Fishing & Boating Guide: Why Cedar Lodge is the Ultimate Lower Dells Resort with a Private Boat Launch

For boating and fishing enthusiasts, the Wisconsin River is one of the most breathtaking and rewarding waterways in the Midwest. Between the towering, ancient sandstone cliffs of the Lower Dells and some of the best walleye and bass fishing in the state, it’s a boater’s paradise.
However, anyone who has ever traveled to the Wisconsin Dells with a boat trailer knows the logistical headache it can cause. Finding public launches, paying daily fees, and worrying about truck-and-trailer parking at a crowded waterpark hotel can quickly take the relaxation out of your vacation.
If you are planning a river getaway, here is everything you need to know about navigating the Lower Dells—and how to skip the logistical stress entirely.
Navigating the Lower Dells: What to Expect
The Lower Dells (the section of the Wisconsin River flowing south of the dam) offers a completely different vibe than the bustling Upper Dells. It’s wider, more tranquil, and famously scenic.
-
Cruising: You can boat right alongside iconic rock formations like the Sugar Bowl, the Inkpot, and Grotto Rock.
-
The Fishing: The Lower Dells is a legendary fishery. Anglers flock here for trophy Walleye, Sauger, Smallmouth Bass, and Northern Pike. The deep pools near the rock faces and the fast-moving water near the dam are prime spots.
-
Sandbars & Beaches: One of the best parts of boating this stretch is pulling up to a quiet sandbar or a secluded beach to relax, swim, and sunbathe away from the crowded waterparks.
The Secret to a Stress-Free Boat Trip: Stay Where You Launch
Most travelers have to deal with the daily grind of hitching up the trailer, driving to a public ramp, paying a launch fee, and hunting for a parking spot big enough for a truck and trailer.
At Cedar Lodge and Settlement, we designed our resort to eliminate that entire headache. We are one of the very few properties on the Lower Dells that caters directly to the boating and fishing crowd.
-
Our Private Boat Launch & Pier: When you stay with us, you don’t need to use public ramps. We have a private boat launch right on the property. Drop your boat in the water once, tie it up to our pier, and you’re done for the weekend.
-
Ample Trailer Parking: No tight parking spots or crowded lots. We have plenty of dedicated, secure space on-site to park your truck and boat trailer.
-
Fish-Cleaning Station: Had a successful day on the water? Use our on-site fish-cleaning station to prep your catch of the day for dinner without making a mess in your cabin or suite.
-
The Ultimate Post-River Setup: After a long day on the water, you can pull your boat right up to our 400-foot private sandy beach, spark up one of our charcoal grills, and sit by a beach bonfire to watch the sunset over the river.

Ready to Hit the Water?
Whether you’re bringing a pontoon for a family cruise or a bass boat to land your next big catch, the river is calling. Skip the crowded mega-hotels and stay right on the water where your boat is just steps from your bed.
